Clinical studies as a logistical challenge.
05 November 2008
Roche carries out hundreds of trials worldwide every year to test the effectiveness and safety of new drugs. Today’s clinical trials are becoming more and more complex, presenting a significant challenge in terms of trial planning, communication between those involved, the definition of processes, and IT. But clinical trials also represent a logistical challenge, including the production, packaging, and distribution of the study medication to the thousands of doctors and hospitals (trial centres) conducting the trials.
As part of the Excellence in Clinical Supply (ECS) project, Global Technical Development/Supply (PTD/S) and Global Clinical Operations (PDO) work together to ensure that the increasingly complex clinical trials will continue to be supplied in a reliable and efficient way in the future. Capacities, collaboration and services have improved in the last few years. The new internal distribution network has been tested since the beginning of 2008.
