ROACCUTANE®
Indications
Treatment of severe cystic acne unresponsive to conventional therapy including systemic antibiotics.
Contraindications
Use in pregnancy (must not be used by females who are pregnant or who may possibly become pregnant while undergoing treatment), severe hepatic impairment, chronic elevated blood lipids, retinoid hypersensitivity, pre-existing hypervitaminosis A, concomitant tetracycline treatment.
Adverse Reactions
Symptoms of hypervitaminosis A [e.g. mucocutaneous side effects such as dryness of the skin, in particular peeling of the palms and soles, dryness of the mucosa e.g. of the lips (cheilitis), the nasal mucosa (epistaxis) the pharynx, the eyes (conjunctivitis, reversible corneal opacities and intolerance to contact lenses)], skin and appendage disorders (e.g. exanthema, pruritus, facial erythema, pyogenic granuloma, nail dystrophy, hair thinning, reversible alopecia, hirsutism, photosensitivity, skin fragility, acne exacerbation), pseudotumour cerebri, headache, psychiatric disorders (e.g. depression), raised liver transaminases, hepatitis, elevated ESR, raised triglyceride and cholesterol levels, visual abnormalities, nausea, inflammatory bowel disorders, acute pancreatitis, musculosketal symptoms (e.g. myalgia, arthralgia, arthritis, hyperostosis, tendinitis).
